Impact evaluation of Foreign Aid Reduction on Poverty and Inequality in Afghanistan.
  • Evaluated the impact of protracted cutback in international development aid on poverty and inequality outcomes to inform national and regional level antipoverty strategy in Afghanistan
  • Identified heterogenous effects of aid reduction across administrative regions of the country as well as across various sectors of economic activity
  • Recommended policies to reduce aid dependence and promote self-sustainability

Multilevel Econometric Analysis of the Impact of Self-Reported Weather/ Rainfall Shocks on Household Consumption using LSMS-ISA Surveys for Sub-Saharan Africa. In order to support the design of rapid, well-targeted, and efficient post-disaster response programs, this project:
  • Estimated the impact of self-reported incidence of rainfall shocks on household consumption in Sub-Saharan African countries
  • Identified characteristics of households that may cushion the impact of rainfall shocks
  • Cross-validated the reliability of empirical results obtained from econometric analysis using self-reported measures of incidence of rainfall shocks against that from analysis based on objective measures of rainfall shocks
  • Derived estimates of household vulnerability attributable to idiosyncratic and covariate shocks using multilevel analysis
  • Validated the predicted vulnerability of a household based on poverty status across panel surveys

Spatial Analysis of Distribution of Poverty in Gambia using Small Area Estimation Techniques. This project involved:
  • Harmonization and comprehensive descriptive analysis of large data sets including Gambia Population and Housing Census 2013 and Consumption Expenditure and Gambia Integrated Household Survey on Poverty Level Assessment 2015-2016
  • Constructing and deriving micro-level measures of welfare utilizing the breadth of information about standard of living available in the Household Survey and the national coverage of the Household Census
  • Visualization of spatial variation in welfare measures across different administrative divisions of Gambia to inform local and national level antipoverty policy

Other projects include:
  • Study of 2100 Indonesian public schools to determine how a curriculum designed to enhance socio-emotional skills and aspirations of students affects their educational and career choices
  • Labor Force Survey Analysis for Bhutan Development Report and associated background papers
  • Poverty, vulnerability and inequality profiling as a part of Systematic Country Diagnostic of Papua New Guinea and East Timor using Household Income and Expenditure Surveys
 

FINANCE INTERN, INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND

  • Submitted an empirical research paper titled "​IMF-Supported Programs and Income Convergence in Low-Income Countries" examining whether concessional IMF programs facilitate economic growth and income convergence in eligible low-income countries (LIC)
  • Identified economic and political preconditions necessary for IMF program success
  • Presented findings to Senior Economists and the LIC-facilities review team
  • Collaborated with Strategy, Policy and Review Department to inform initial stage of the review process
 

FISCAL INTERN, ETHICS AND PUBLIC POLICY CENTER

  • Co-authored two policy research columns addressing intergenerational inequality in Social Security and targeting inefficiency in Disability Insurance
  • Reviewed and summarized MACRA legislation, CBO’s long-term economic outlook and worker compensation laws 
  • Attended Congressional Budget Committee hearings and seminars on national fiscal issues
